Why Consume Usirikaya (Indian gooseberry / Amla)?

Amla is a powerhouse of so many nutrients and can treat countless ailments as well. Besides, amla is mostly known for its unique flavour often described as sour, bitter, pungent and astringent. Not just that, according to Ayurveda amla is capable of balancing the three doshas (Kapha, Vata, pitta) in our body by eliminating the underlying cause of several diseases.

In many parts of India, this tangy fruit is often enjoyed in a pickled form. Consume it as a juice which is a convenient way to add some extra nutrients to the diet. It is also available as a powdered supplement. Below we have explained why amla is considered a superfood. Read on!!

Some of its benefits include:

Promotes immunity: Usirikaya contains eight times more Vitamin C than an orange, a water-soluble vitamin that acts as an antioxidant. Vitamin c is a powerful micronutrient that helps boost immunity. Moreover, it contains twice the amount of antioxidants as acai berry and 17 times that of a pomegranate.

Vitamin C protects the cells against oxidative stress and can help prevent certain types of infections as well. When consumed regularly, it may even shorten the duration of the common cold.

Helps in managing chronic illnesses: The amino acids and antioxidants present in usirikaya aid in overall heart functioning. Many chronic illnesses can be managed by just consuming amla regularly. Chromium present in Amla helps the body to be more responsive to insulin. It also regulates the blood sugar level, which makes it excellent for diabetics.

Cancer is caused by oxidative damage. In simple words, when body cells use oxygen, they leave a harmful by-product behind called radicals. Indian gooseberry helps in preventing and repairing this damage and many more.
